Évolution darwinienne de population : effet de la sélection sur les généalogies

Résumé : Après quelques mots d'introduction à la problématique de l'évolution de population, on présentera une classe de modèles très élémentaires qui incorporent les deux grands piliers de l'évolution darwinienne : mutations aléatoires et sélection naturelle. On montrera comment la sélection détermine, dans le cas de ces modèles, la forme des arbres généalogiques. En mettant en lumière les liens avec d'autres domaines scientifiques, on tentera également d'expliquer pourquoi des physiciens s'intéressent à de tels problèmes, a priori très éloignés des sujets traditionnels de la physique.

UK – France Workshop on Particle-In-Cell simulations for laser – plasma interaction LULI, Ecole Polytechnique, France, Monday November 19, 2012

1. Workshop description

The aim of this one-day meeting is to discuss the recent developments in Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulations for laser – plasma interaction in France and in the UK. It will consist in a few oral presentations (on numerics, numerical implementations of physical mechanisms and physical studies using PIC codes), some dedicated discussion time and one poster session. PhD students and post-docs are strongly encouraged to participate in these sessions. It will allow scientists from both sides of the Channel to get an overview of the ongoing research on these topics and give them the opportunity to start or continue collaborations on either the numerical aspects or the physical aspects of PIC modelling. Some time will also be devoted to discuss the benchmarking of the various PIC codes used in the represented teams (CALDER, EMI2D, EPOCH, ILLUMINATION and PICLS) in order to create a common database of reference cases. This work was started in 2010 in the framework of HiPER. This meeting will take place on November 19, 2012 in the LULI conference room at Ecole Polytechnique, near Paris.

15:30:16:00 : Concluding remarks, discussion about the benchmark database and plans for a future workshop on the same topics in the UK. Discussions on a common proposal to request large amounts of CPU time for running the codes.
