Abstract

This thesis project aims to investigate the physics of many-body quantum bilayer systems theoretically. Bilayer systems, composed of two closely spaced layers, exhibit fascinating phenomena arising from the interplay of intra-layer dynamics and inter-layer coupling. Ultracold atoms in optical lattices provide a versatile platform to emulate such systems with precise control over physical parameters.

We will focus on bosonic systems, leveraging their advantages in terms of cooling, numerical simulations, and unexplored physics. By studying both strong and weak inter-layer coupling regimes, we will explore the quantum phase diagrams of these systems, including the stabilization of novel quantum phases.

Key objectives include:
Developing a quantum Monte Carlo program for bilayer systems.
Investigating out-of-equilibrium dynamics using tensor network approaches.
