Abstract

The effects of these interactions produce interesting phenomena such as superconductivity, quantum Hall phases and (quantum) phase transitions. Our objectives are, on the one hand, to develop new algorithms, theories, and tools to characterise these states of matter via e.g. quantum information and topology and, on the other hand, to develop new applications in relation to mesoscopic transport and time protocols. We have introduced 'bipartite fluctuations' as a measure of the entangled nature of quantum systems, correlated physics and quantum phase transitions. Here, one of our aims is to develop this tool through algorithms, e.g. DMRG, and field theory , to reveal charge fractionalisation in one-dimensional Luttinger liquids or quantum wires, in connection with experimental collaborations and also to better understand mesoscopic quantum transport in presence of interactions creating a correspondence to Laughlin wave functions. This also provides a bridge to general questions about statistical physics at low temperatures and mathematics through charge or spin statistics. The effects of disorder can also lead to new physics e.g. in relation to many-body localisation. By coupling quantum wires, we can also gradually find solutions to models in higher dimensions, associated with new phases of matter, including the emergence of topological phases. The novelty in our theoretical approach, between disciplines, is also to look at the dynamics in time and the light-matter interaction, creating analogies with quantum circuits.
