The center for Theoretical Physics (CPHT) at Ecole Polytechnique gathers research scientists working in diverse domains of fundamental and applied Physics. The overall coherence is assured by the corpus of common, transposable, mathematical and numerical methods.
CPHT is a joint research unit of CNRS and Ecole Polytechnique, and has a partnership with the Collège de France. His director is Jean-René Chazottes, Senior Researcher at CNRS.
CPHT is on the campus of Ecole Polytechnique, buildings 5 and 6. The reception offices are located in building 6 , offices 06.1046 and 06.1045.

From quantum gravity to conformal tensor models

I will present an overview of the path leading from non-perturbative approaches to quantum gravity to the recent development of field theories in the so-called "melonic limit".
Along such path one encounters topics such as asymptotic safety, dynamical triangulations, tensor models, AdS/CFT duality, and more. I will try to make sense of all that.

Instituted in 2008, the Outstanding Referee program expresses appreciation for the essential work that anonymous peer reviewers do for our journals. Each year a small percentage of our 71,000 active referees are selected and honored with the Outstanding Referee designation. Selections are made based on the number, quality, and timeliness of referee reports as collected in a database over the last 30 years. A full listing and further details on the program are available here:

In 2019 we will be celebrating the 61st anniversary of the Centre de Physique Théorique, founded in 1958 by Louis Michel. This institute is part of the Ecole Polytechnique research centre, widely acknowledged for its scientific diversity and international leadership, as well as for the prominent role of its members in teaching and outreach activities.

PhD defense at the LPTHE library (Paris) on Tuesday, 4th of september, at 2pm

Charles Cosnier Horeau

Abstract: I will present the idea of black hole microstate counting in string theory vacua with extended supersymmetry (N=4), and explain how the degeneracy of certain BPS black holes in four dimension can be extracted from exact couplings in the low energy effective action of a three dimensional model. This set of conjectures will be motivated with supersymmetry constraints, non-perturbative symmetries, and agreement with known results from the literature.
