Postdoctoral Position(s)

ERC Grant 'Information Encoding in Quantum Gravity and the Black Hole Information Paradox'

The Center of Theoretical Physics at Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France) invites applications for a postdoctoral position starting in Fall 2023, in the research group of Dr. Andrea Puhm funded by the ERC Starting Grant 2020-2025 'Information Encoding in Quantum Gravity and the Black Hole Information Paradox'.

We are looking for applicants with a PhD in theoretical physics and expertise in black holes, holography, asymptotic symmetries, scattering amplitudes, conformal field theory, string theory. The group of Andrea Puhm currently includes postdoctoral fellows Sangmin Choi, Marija Tomašević and Emilio Trevisani, and PhD student Yorgo Pano.

Other permanent members of CPHT with research interests overlapping with the group include Guillaume Bossard, Emilian Dudas, Blaise Goutéraux, Marios Petropoulos, Balt van Rees, amongst others. Further information about the institute can be found here. The Paris area is home to many other theoretical institutes at the forefront of research in theoretical High Energy physics and a lively community whose ties are fostered through joint seminars and journal clubs.

Appointments will initially be made for two years, with extension to a third year contingent on satisfactory performance. We offer competitive salaries, as well as a generous travel allowance. The group's activities will include a regular visitor program as well as workshops on the topics of the grant.

The application deadline is November 30, 2022. The CPHT is part of a group of European institutes with a centralized system of postdoctoral applications. Candidates should apply through the following website, choosing the CPHT as one of their preferred institutes: https://itf.fys.kuleuven.be/postdoc-application/
