Abstract :The aim of the research project is to derive fundamental and universal properties of scattering amplitudes from first principles. The methodology is based on a recent result obtained by the thesis director, where amplitudes can be obtained as the flat-space limit of boundary correlation functions for a quantum field theory in anti-de Sitter space. This result provides an alternative to the more familiar LSZ prescription and can be used to derive more powerful results. Concrete targets are a domain of analyticity for scattering amplitudes, constraints on the high-energy behaviour (cf. the Froissart bound), and general numerical bounds.
