Abstract
The renormalisation group equations give access to a systematic treatment of perturbative renormalisation theory in full generality. At the same time they link this issue of perturbative quantum field theory to the nonperturbative analysis of quantum field theories. Recent progress concerns in particular the analysis of the so-called triviality problem of quantum field theory in the mean field approximation. The subject of the thesis is situated in this field and is focussed in particular on the importance of the the so-called irrelevant in the bare action on the mathematical status and on the scaling behaviour of quantum field theories in this framework.
